NAVIGATE: Navigating Attitudes to Vaccination Implementation for Gonorrhoea in the UK: Acceptability, Trust and Engagement

Overview

NAVIGATE is a mixed-methods study led by Charlie Firth, focused on attitudes, perceptions, and acceptability of gonorrhoea vaccination.  As new prevention strategies emerge – such as the repurposing of the Men B vaccine (Bexsero) to reduce gonorrhoea risk – NAVIGATE explores how adolescents, their parents, young adults, and at-risk communities respond to this evolving evidence.

Through a combination of surveys and interviews, the study investigates public attitudes, concerns, and information needs around gonorrhoea vaccination. It also examines how best to communicate emerging scientific knowledge in ways that are clear, trustworthy, and relevant to people’s lives.

Despite significant health burdens, gonorrhoea remains under-recognised in public discourse. NAVIGATE supports evidence-informed health communication and helps ensure that future vaccine programmes are guided not only by epidemiological need but also by public values and preferences.
